The dialogue space will contain a plenary session every morning followed by working groups
What is a Dialogue Space?
Dialogue Spaces can be understood as a collection of processes that enable people and institutions to apply knowledge to improve effectiveness, innovation and quality. The purpose of knowledge sharing through Dialogue Spaces is to turn individual knowledge into collective knowledge, thus potentially multiplying efficiency and quality of progammes and policies.
A Dialogue Space (DS) has the purpose of developing its participants’ capacity to communicate effectively with partners and other participants. The DS operates principally as a platform for sharing and consolidating its participant’s knowledge and information, and a vehicle for capacity development in knowledge and information management. An annual Forum is one of the principle activities through which this takes place.
What is the Objective of a Dialogue Space?
The objective of a Dialogue Space depends on the issues, process, or practice area around which it is organized and upon which it is focused. In general, however the objectives include the following purposes:
- stimulate interaction
- foster learning
- create new knowledge
- socialize new members
- identify and share best practices
Key Aspects of a Dialogue Space
A Dialogue Space is …
- flexible, responsive;
- global, with regional and country-level elements – multi-leveled;
- entrepreneurial, not passive – looking for opportunities to influence and shape the agenda and issues;
- substantive, concentrating on strong professional contributions;
- a flat framework with less hierarchy; a chance to do things differently;
A Dialogue Space is …
- One aspect of practice activity
- A vehicle through which practitioners work together to identify and meet their own needs, some of which can be addressed through dialogue.
- It comprises all the practitioners, working together, deliberately and consciously, to understand their potential, clarifies their purpose and develop their capacity and effectiveness.
A Dialogue Space has …
- A multitude of entry points, diversity of members;
- Systematic ways of collecting and building on people’s experience - iterative processes;
- A focus on communication, and on knowledge sharing
- Focus, attention and resources dedicated to all the thematic topics covered by the Forum.
The objective of the Dialogue Spaces working groups every day of the Forum is for participants to come up with the following based on their knowledge and experiences:
1. What are the priorities for collective action that should be targeted by the different policy makers in the Arab countries (Identify prioritization of 2-3 priorities for action in the next 5 years in the Arab region)?
2. Given the above selected priorities you have identified in Number (1), what are the activities and mechanisms that should be initiated/implemented in the next 5 years to respond to the above priorities at the national level?
(Examples: Guides? training? Facilitated discussions? Projects? Policies? etc.)
3. What are the activities and mechanisms required at the regional level?
(This question is for regional and international organizations)
