In the aim of preserving, promoting and disseminating the art and culture of the Arab youth, the LAS Youth Forum will consecrate its afternoon sessions to cultural activities.
The cultural activities aim to:
- Provide opportunities for youth to express their views, feelings and concerns through an innovative and creative medium.
- Create a new type of dialogue between Arab youth
- Promote artistic and cultural exchange among Arab youth
- Support youth arts and encourage the prevalence of an "Arab youth art culture"
According to each day's theme, artists will be performing and presenting their work. Participating youth can select the cultural medium they wish to present the Forum Themes through:
Theater: Produce a play of 30 to 60 minutes of time. The play theme should be relevant to the Forum theme/sub-themes. You should act your opinion and daily life through this scenario. The theater groups can be up to three participants. Try to minimize the production material such as décor material, costumes, and accessories.
Art: Art includes painting, sculpting, pottery or any other type of art. Each artist will present his/her piece and perform live in front of the audience on the theme he/she has been selected.
Dance: A group of up to five participants can perform their choreography. You can choose your own music; it should be relative to Arabic culture.
Photography: Photographers will exhibit their photos according to the theme selected.
Film/Documentary: A 3-10 minutes documentary film should be realized in relevance with the themes/sub-themes of the Forum. You are free to choose the style, elements, surroundings, techniques …. For selection and programming consideration, the Forum accepts DVD and CD-ROMS. Submitted films and videos will be selected in the following categories: Short films, Music Video, documentary film. The final print of each invited film or video must arrive at the Forum before August 30th, 2007. The Forum reserves the right to refuse or cancel the projection of any print deemed of insufficient quality.
Music: A recent DVD of at least 15 minutes and no longer than 20 minutes, clearly marked with your name, address, selections, tracks and accurate timings.
Literature: Writers can participate by presenting short story according to the theme of the day. We are looking for fiction, essays, poetry and narrative which speak to the themes which seem to define or redefine who we are and your place in the world. Please send two clean copies of your manuscript. Prose manuscripts should be 500-3,000 words in length and single spaced (approximately 1-6 pages). The name, address, telephone number and organizational affiliation of the author should be included on a title page, but not on the manuscripts.
Poetry: Please send 2 copies of unpublished poems related to the forum’s themes. Maximum of 30 lines per poem. Include name, address, telephone number, and age.
RULES:
- All decisions of the selection committee will be final and are not subject to question, review or appeal.
- The order of appearance of candidates at each round will be chosen by the selection committee.
- All candidates must be ready and willing to perform earlier than the originally assigned time should there be any cancellations.
All rounds of the competition are free and open to the public.
Participation in the Forum constitutes a waiver of all claims and fees for the broadcast of performances on radio or television, either live or on tape. The Forum may record and videotape all rounds and may use these materials at any time without payment of fees or royalties to the performer.
